Seeking deeper solitude, he retreated to a nearby rock cave, where he lived as a hermit, known for his wisdom and spiritual guidance. Stephen the Great, the ruler of Moldavia, often sought Daniel's counsel. Before a crucial battle against the invading Ottomans, Stephen visited Daniel, seeking assurance of victory. Daniel prophesied Stephen's triumph, urging him to build a monastery in thanksgiving if victorious. Stephen won the battle and fulfilled his vow by building Putna Monastery.
