When the villagers, pressured by the Austro-Hungarian authorities, decided to abandon Orthodoxy and embrace Catholicism, Theodosie refused. He fearlessly defended his ancestral beliefs, urging others to remain steadfast. Enraged, the authorities arrested and tortured him. He endured unspeakable suffering but never wavered. Finally, they dragged him to the river and drowned him, thus sealing his martyrdom for Christ.
