Venerable John, a simple shepherd, was captured by invading Tartars who demanded he renounce his faith and embrace their pagan beliefs. He refused, enduring torture and beatings. Despite the immense suffering, John remained steadfast in his devotion to Christ. Enraged by his unyielding faith, the Tartars beheaded him. Christians later recovered his body, finding it incorrupt and fragrant, a testament to his holiness.
