During the persecution under Emperor Diocletian, Bishop Irineu of Sirmium was arrested and faced torture for his faith. Refusing to renounce Christ, he was subjected to brutal torments, including being stretched on a rack and having his flesh torn with iron hooks. Despite the immense suffering, he remained steadfast, converting others even in prison. Finally, he was beheaded in 304 AD. His unwavering faith and courage in the face of martyrdom inspired many.
