Venerable John Iacob the Romanian, after serving in holy places and writing theological works, retreated to a solitary cell near the Hozeva Monastery. There, he lived a life of extreme asceticism, eating very little and dedicating himself to constant prayer and writing. Despite his desire for solitude, pilgrims sought him out for guidance. He fell ill and reposed in 1960. His relics, discovered incorrupt, are venerated to this day.
Holy John, ascetic of the desert, pray to God for us!
