During his imprisonment under the communist regime, Fr. Dumitru Stăniloae embarked on a monumental theological endeavor. Confined and isolated, he translated the "Philokalia," a collection of writings by early Church Fathers on prayer and spiritual life, from Greek into Romanian. This act, born from suffering and dedication, provided spiritual nourishment to the oppressed Romanian people, offering a beacon of hope amid the darkness.
