Turkish soldiers, raiding the Tismana Monastery in Wallachia, demanded he reveal the location of the monastery's hidden treasures. Gherasim refused to betray the sacred trust, enduring torture and ultimately being beheaded for his unwavering loyalty to God and his monastic community. His martyrdom solidified his place as a protector of the monastery and a symbol of courage in the face of persecution.
