John, a merchant from Trebizond, was arrested in Belgorod for confessing his Christian faith. The enraged judge offered him riches and honor if he renounced Christ. John refused, and they tortured him mercilessly. Finally, they tied him to a horse's tail and dragged him through the streets, ending his life.
