In Săliştea, Transylvania, Oprea, a simple peasant, stood firm in his Orthodox Christian faith during a time of forced conversion to Calvinism in the 18th century. Despite immense pressure and threats, he refused to renounce his beliefs. Arrested and tortured, Oprea was promised freedom and wealth if he converted, but he remained steadfast. He was eventually martyred for his unwavering devotion.
