In 1760, during a time of religious persecution in Transylvania, Oprea of Săliştea, a simple peasant, stood firm in his Orthodox Christian faith despite pressure to convert to Catholicism. He was imprisoned and tortured, but he refused to renounce his beliefs. He was ultimately martyred for his unwavering faith.
