In 1755, during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, the Romanian Orthodox priest Martyr Oprea of Săliştea, refused to convert to Catholicism. Despite facing threats, imprisonment, and torture, he remained steadfast in his Orthodox faith. He was eventually condemned to death and burned at the stake for refusing to renounce his beliefs. His unwavering commitment to Orthodoxy made him a symbol of resistance against religious oppression.
Holy Martyr Oprea of Săliştea, pray to God for us! May your courage inspire us to remain firm in our faith.
