Hieromartyr Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian taken as a slave to Constantinople, became a Romanian bishop, a master of language, a writer, and a defender of the poor. He modernized printing in Wallachia, printing books in Romanian, Greek, and Slavonic. His reforms angered local nobles, who falsely accused him of treason. He was exiled and murdered on his way to Constantinople in 1716.

O, Hieromartyr Antim, intercede for us before the throne of God!
