In 1821, during the Greek War of Independence, Gregory IV faced immense pressure. Despite his efforts to maintain peace, he was arrested by the Ottomans and accused of inciting rebellion. Dragged from the Metropolitan Cathedral, he was brutally executed at the gate of Bucharest. His martyrdom became a symbol of Romanian resistance and faith.

Lord, may his sacrifice inspire us to stand firm in our beliefs. May his memory be eternal!
