Dosoftei, a scholar-monk, translated religious texts into Romanian, including the Psalter in verse, becoming the first Romanian poet of note. During a turbulent era of wars and political strife, he served as a shepherd of his flock, promoting education and defending the Orthodox faith against encroaching foreign influences.
