Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian, was enslaved and later freed in Constantinople. Skilled in languages and arts, he became a renowned calligrapher and woodcarver. Appointed Metropolitan of Wallachia, he printed books in Romanian, Greek, and Slavonic, fostering literacy. He established the first printing press in Wallachia and championed the Romanian language in church services. His reforms angered some nobles. He was falsely accused of treason, exiled, and murdered in 1716.

Holy Hieromartyr Antim, pray to God for us, that we may be granted wisdom and strength to serve Him faithfully! #OrthodoxSaints #RomanianOrthodox #Hieromartyr #EasternOrthodoxy #Pray
