Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, stood firm in faith when Emperor Maximian demanded he offer sacrifices to idols. Irineu refused, confessing Christ. After imprisonment and persuasion attempts failed, he was brought before the Emperor again. Irineu remained steadfast, declaring the futility of idol worship. Enraged, Maximian ordered his beheading. As Irineu prayed, he was executed, thus embracing martyrdom for Christ.

Lord, through the prayers of Saint Irineu, strengthen our resolve to always stand for truth.
