In the early 19th century, during a time of great upheaval in Wallachia, the young Calinic, then a monk named Clement, displayed remarkable courage. When Turkish soldiers threatened a village near the monastery, he rallied the local peasants. Arming them with farm tools and faith, he led a defense that repelled the invaders, safeguarding the villagers and their homes. He later became Bishop of Râmnic, known for his wisdom and charity.
