In 1769, during a raid by Ottoman Turks on Tismana Monastery, the venerable Gherasim, a humble monk, refused to reveal the location of the monastery's hidden treasures. Despite brutal torture, he remained steadfast in his faith and committed to protecting God's house. Enraged by his unwavering resolve, the invaders beheaded him, marking his martyrdom. His sacrifice protected the sacred relics and wealth of the monastery.
