On a trading journey to Crimea, John confessed his Christian faith before a pagan ruler. Tortured relentlessly for refusing to renounce Christ, he was tied to a horse and dragged through the streets until his body was torn to pieces. Finally, his head was cut off. Even in death, his face shone with divine grace.
