In 1821, during the Greek Revolution, Gregory IV, Metropolitan of Ţara Românească, sheltered revolutionaries in his monasteries, defying Ottoman orders. Accused of aiding the uprising, he was arrested and brutally murdered in Bucharest. His martyrdom became a symbol of Romanian resistance and faith.

Let us pray for his intercession, that we may be granted strength and courage to defend our faith.
