The Apostle Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, was the first to follow Jesus, hence his title "the First-Called." Tradition holds that after Pentecost, Andrew preached the Gospel in various regions, including modern-day Romania. He is considered the patron saint of Romania. Legend says he was martyred in Patras, Greece, crucified on an X-shaped cross, which has become his symbol. He preached fearlessly, even as he was being killed.

Lord, through the intercessions of Saint Andrew, grant us strength and courage to spread the Gospel. May he, the First-Called, guide us to Christ.
