On August 15, 1714, Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu of Wallachia and his four sons—Constantin, Stephen, Radu, and Matthew—were arrested by the Ottomans. Offered life in exchange for converting to Islam, they refused. Constantin, the youngest, feared death, but his father urged him to stand firm in his faith. All five were beheaded in Istanbul. Their steadfast refusal to deny Christ made them martyrs.
