Venerable Martyr Visarion, born in 1714 in Gorj County, became a monk at Lainici Monastery. He preached against apostasy and conversion to Islam during a time of great religious pressure. Arrested and tortured for his unwavering faith, he was eventually beheaded in 1744 in Bucharest. His martyrdom strengthened the resolve of Christians in the face of adversity.
