Venerable Dimitrie the New of Basarabi, a simple shepherd, was martyred for his faith. While traveling near the Danube, he was accused of a crime he did not commit and brutally murdered by jealous merchants. His body, cast into the river, miraculously remained incorrupt for centuries. The faithful recovered him and built a church to enshrine his relics. They are now venerated in Bucharest.
