Venerable Nicodim, a beacon of monasticism, arrived in Romania from the Holy Mountain in the 14th century. He chose the wild, forested valley of Tismana to build a monastery. A local legend says he struck the ground with his staff, and a spring of healing water gushed forth—the same water that still flows today. He tirelessly copied and translated books, enriching Romanian culture.
