Venerable Daniel the Hermit, guide and protector of Moldavia, pray to God for us. His life, a beacon of monastic discipline and spiritual warfare, started when he was tonsured a monk at the Saint Nicholas Monastery of Probota. Later he retreated into the wilderness, seeking profound communion with God. He dwelled as a hermit for many years near Putna Monastery. Tradition holds that he later directed Stephen the Great to build the Putna Monastery after his victory against the invading Tartars, inspiring him to dedicate his life and reign to Christ. He counseled Stephen in battles and decisions, showing unwavering faith. His life was an example of prayer, fasting, and devotion.
