St. John the Valachian, a Romanian soldier in service to the Ottoman Empire, refused to convert to Islam. Despite temptations and threats, he held steadfast to his Christian #Faith. Enraged, the Turks subjected him to brutal tortures, including beatings and burning, but John never renounced Christ. Finally, they beheaded him in Constantinople around 1662. His unwavering devotion unto death made him a martyr for the Orthodox faith.
