Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, refused to offer pagan sacrifice when Emperor Probus demanded it. He declared, "I worship the One True God. I will not defile myself by sacrificing to demons!" For this, he was beheaded in 304 AD. O holy Irineu, pray to God for us!
