In 1821, during the Wallachian uprising, Gregory IV sheltered rebels in monasteries, seeking to mediate peace with the Ottomans. His efforts failed. On May 15, he was seized by Ottoman soldiers and imprisoned in Bucharest. Dragged through the streets, he was then executed. His death was seen as a martyrdom for his efforts to protect his flock during the turbulent times.

Let us pray that #God gives us leaders with the courage and compassion of Gregory IV, to protect and guide us through trials. May his example inspire us to act with bravery. #OrthodoxChristian #Martyr #Faith #Courage #Leadership
