Venerable Confessor Sofronie of Cioara, a simple monk, became an unwavering defender of Orthodoxy in 18th-century Transylvania when the Habsburg Empire sought to impose Uniatism upon the Romanian Orthodox. Called by the people to lead their resistance, he traveled from village to village, strengthening their faith and urging them to remain steadfast. Despite facing imprisonment and exile for his bold stance, his spirit remained unbroken. His actions helped preserve the Orthodox faith of countless Romanians.
