Dasius, a Roman soldier, was chosen by lot to play the role of the pagan god Saturn during a festival. As the festival began, Dasius refused to participate, declaring himself a Christian. He was arrested and, despite pleas from his relatives, remained steadfast in his faith. Dasius was beheaded outside the Durostorum fortress on the Danube, now Silistra, Bulgaria, on November 20, 304 AD.
