In Moesia, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, Saint Dassie, a Roman soldier, stood firm in his Christian faith. When chosen by lot to represent the troop in pagan celebrations of the Saturnalia, he refused to don the garments of idolatry. Declaring himself a Christian, he was subjected to torture and ultimately beheaded for his unwavering devotion to Christ.
