Saint Priest Martyr Alexandru of Basarabia stood firm in his faith amidst persecution. In 1918, when Basarabia united with Romania, he championed the use of Romanian in church services. Arrested in 1940 by the Soviets, he endured torture for refusing to renounce his faith and continued to perform mass in his cell. He was martyred in 1941 near Chisinau.
