Montanus, a priest, and Maxima, his wife, faced Roman persecution for their unwavering Christian faith. Ordered to renounce Christ and worship pagan gods, they refused. Maxima, witnessing Montanus's torture, strengthened him with her resolve. They endured floggings, stonings, and ultimately, were drowned at Singidunum (Belgrade) around 304 AD. Their steadfast devotion inspired many.
