In 1949, Fr. Ilarion Felea was arrested by the communist regime for his unwavering faith. Interrogated and tortured, he refused to renounce God or betray his flock. One night, they presented him with a statement denouncing his beliefs, demanding he sign it. Fr. Ilarion, weakened but resolute, dipped his finger in his own blood and signed the document with a cross. He died shortly after, a martyr for Christ.
