The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, a virgin pledged to Joseph, and announced she would conceive and bear a son, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. Despite her initial confusion, Mary humbly accepted God's will, declaring herself the Lord's servant. Her "yes" is pivotal; her faith opened the door for the Incarnation, the divine taking on human flesh for our salvation. Her cousin Elizabeth, also pregnant, greeted Mary with joy, proclaiming her blessed among women.
