Venerable John the New of Prislop Monastery, a humble monk, lived in the 16th century. Seeking deeper solitude, he withdrew to a cave near the Prislop Monastery in Romania. He lived a life of prayer and asceticism. One day, while praying, he was discovered by hunters. Mistaking him for a vagrant, they shot him. Monks from the monastery found his body, miraculously preserved and emitting a sweet fragrance. He was buried in the monastery church, becoming a beacon of faith and a protector of the region.
