Hieromartyr Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian by birth, was a master craftsman, calligrapher, and theologian. As Metropolitan of Wallachia, he championed Romanian language and culture, establishing the first printing press in Bucharest. His liturgical books and sermons enriched the spiritual life of the people. Eventually, his defense of the poor and criticism of the powerful led to his exile and martyrdom. He was drowned in the Danube River in 1716. May his prayers intercede for us!
