Martyr John the New, a merchant, was betrayed by a jealous colleague and arrested by the Tartar governor in Belgorod. He was pressured to renounce Christ but refused, enduring torture. He was beaten for converting others, dragged behind a horse, and finally beheaded when he still wouldn't deny his faith. His body was miraculously protected from harm until Christians recovered it.
