The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, a virgin betrothed to Joseph, in Nazareth. He announced she would conceive and bear a son, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. Though perplexed, Mary humbly accepted God's will, declaring herself the Lord's servant. Her "yes" changed history, making her the Mother of God, the Theotokos.
