Born in Bucharest in 1787, Calinic became a monk at Cernica Monastery. Renowned for his calligraphy and iconography, he restored several churches and served as abbot. Later, as Bishop of Râmnic, he tirelessly aided the poor and rebuilt the diocese after a devastating earthquake in 1838. Known for his gentleness and wisdom, he was canonized in 1955.
