Hieromartyr Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian by birth, was Metropolitan of Wallachia. Skilled in languages and arts, he established the first printing press in Bucharest, spreading literacy and faith. His sermons moved hearts, his writings enlightened minds. But his defense of the poor and his refusal to bow to political pressures angered powerful nobles. Falsely accused of treason, he was exiled and murdered in 1716.
