Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, refused to offer pagan sacrifice, boldly proclaiming, "I am a Christian, and will not sacrifice to idols." For this, he was tortured and ultimately beheaded during the persecutions of Emperor Maximian. May his steadfast faith inspire us to stand firm in our beliefs. Let us pray that his example will lead us toward righteousness.
