Venerable Martyr Gherasim of Tismana, a monk of profound faith, lived in 16th-century Wallachia. While peacefully dwelling in the Tismana Monastery, Ottoman soldiers, driven by greed, stormed the sacred place seeking treasure. Gherasim, defending the monastery’s sanctity, refused to reveal the hidden valuables. Enraged, the invaders subjected him to brutal torture. Yet, even in agony, Gherasim remained steadfast in prayer, never betraying his vows or his brothers. Ultimately, he was beheaded for his unwavering commitment to Christ.
