Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, refused to offer sacrifices to pagan gods during Emperor Maximian's persecution. He was brought before the court, where he boldly confessed his faith in Christ. Despite tortures and threats, Irineu remained steadfast. When he was sentenced to beheading, he asked for time to pray. In his heartfelt prayer, he thanked God for allowing him to suffer for His name and asked for the conversion of those who persecuted him. After finishing his prayer, he willingly offered his neck to the executioner.
