In 1918, when Bessarabia united with Romania, #Priest Alexandru stood firm for his faith and nation. He served in Chișinău, advocating for the use of the Romanian language in church services. During the Soviet occupation in 1940, he was arrested for his beliefs and refusal to renounce his faith. Enduring imprisonment and torture, he was martyred in 1941.
