In Nazareth, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary, a virgin betrothed to Joseph. "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!" he declared. Confused and afraid, Mary learned she would conceive a son, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, and He would be the Messiah. Despite her bewilderment, Mary humbly responded, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." Her faith and obedience made her the Mother of God.
