In the year 304, during Diocletian's persecutions, Bishop Irineu of Sirmium was arrested for his unwavering Christian faith. Brought before the authorities, he was pressured to renounce Christ and worship pagan gods. Irineu refused steadfastly, declaring his allegiance to God. Despite threats of torture, he remained firm. Enraged, the emperor ordered his immediate execution. As he was led to the Sava River, Irineu prayed for the strength and perseverance of his flock. He was beheaded, becoming a martyr for the faith. O, #SaintIrineu, pray that we may have the courage to uphold our beliefs in the face of adversity.
